Weekday Walks - Summer 2025
Our final weekday walk of the season took place on Monday 18th August and had the largest attendance of all three walks. A group of 20 set out from St John the Evangelist Church, Cowgill and enjoyed a walk through the fields passing sheep and chickens before sharing a picnic lunch on the slopes overlooking the valley. We then crossed over the River Dee at Nelly Bridge before returning through the former forestry area to the church. The weather was overcast but warm and a pleasant day was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Heather and Valerie for organising this walk to everyone who has supported our walks this summer.
Our second weekday walk took place on Thursday 14th August and this time a group of 12 walkers set out from St Mark’s Church, Cautley along the side of the valley towards Cautley Spout. We stopped for a picnic lunch beside Cautley Beck before heading back to St Mark’s along the valley bottom for refreshments. We had good weather with only a few spots of rain around lunchtime - but not enough to dampen spirits! Thanks to Judith for providing the hospitality at the church, which was much appreciated.
Our first weekday walk of the summer season took place on Monday 4th August with a walk from St Andrew’s, Sedbergh to the Quaker Meeting House at Brigflatts. Having delayed the starting time of the walk to avoid the worst of Storm Floris, an intrepid group of eleven were blessed with a sunny, if slightly blustery, afternoon for our walk through the grounds of Sedbergh school and across the fields. We were met at the meeting house by David Smith who gave us an interesting and informative short talk about George Fox, the history of Quakerism and its foundations in the local area. We enjoyed exploring the meeting house and its grounds and were grateful to be supplied with tea and biscuits before setting off back along the riverbank to Sedbergh.
