Holiday Club 2026 - Heroes in Training!

Children from across the Western Dales Mission Community have been enjoying a fantastic week as ‘Heroes in Training’ at this year’s holiday club held at the People’s Hall in Sedbergh. The annual holiday club, which has taken place for one week each summer for over fifty years, is an ecumenical event run by a team of around thirty volunteers and leaders from across the local churches. Our volunteers range in age from 11-80! This year the club has welcomed over 60 children aged from 4-11. The children are grouped according to age and each day take part in crafts, games and activities sessions. The programme is following materials produced by the Methodist Church and each day features songs, drama, story-telling, and much more. Each year we like to support a charity and this year we are raising money for the Kisa Family Development Project in Nakaseke in Uganda. On Wednesday of the week we were delighted to welcome some of the team from the charity who told us more about their work and the lives of the families they support in Uganda. Throughout the week we have focussed on the key verse Micah 6:8 and the children have been learning about what it means to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God”. Bible stories have focussed on two key characters, James and John, also known as the ‘Sons of Thunder’ (a fantastic super-hero name)! The week culminates with a special celebration service at The People’s Hall this Sunday at 10.30am where the children, their families and the whole community are invited to come and find out more about our week. This is followed by a picnic and games and even a visit from the ice-cream van!
