Flying the Ukrainian flag at St Andrew’s Church, Sedbergh

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sedbergh and Lune PCC chose to fly the Ukrainian flag at St Andrew’s Sedbergh as a sign of our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our prayers for all those affected by the conflict. Since then, we have continued to support Ukraine through occasional coffee mornings and other charitable initiatives.

We would like to update the local community on a change to the way the Ukrainian flag is displayed at St Andrew’s. From October, the Ukrainian flag will be flown on the 24th of each month, marking the date on which the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, and will be displayed inside the church throughout the rest of the month as a continuing sign of prayer, solidarity and support.

This brings the flying of the Ukrainian flag into line with our usual practice of flying flags on particular feast days and significant occasions, while continuing to recognise the suffering of the people of Ukraine and our ongoing hope and prayers for peace.
